NICOLE ST-PIERRE

Nicole St-Pierre was born in Montreal in 1953. A self-taught artist, she has been painting for more than 27 years. Nicole St-Pierre has a long list of shows to her credit located in a variety of places including Quebec, Ontario and the U.S.A. Nicole draws her inspiration from everyday life – from the people, plants, animals and objects around her. She profoundly likes animals because her relationship with them is always simple, clear and true. She likes to paint them because they allow her to say things that normally she couldn’t, thanks to their inherent symbolism.

Nicole states, “My life is painting and I put everything into it – my preoccupations, my tastes, everything gets poured into my work”. As a result, her paintings are well thought out and never stale. They are distinguished by the use of carefully chosen symbolic elements used in a spontaneous and dynamic, sometime humorous manner. Her work is characterized by the use of vibrant color, a geometric cast to composition and the unexpected associations of motives, as well as a flattened sense of perspective, which recalls Picasso or Matisse, two of her greatest influences. She admires Picasso’s strength and genius. Nicole St-Pierre’s paintings are part of private collections throughout the world.
