Michael Tickner

Michael Tickner

Michael Tickner resides on Vancouver Island but was born in London, England in 1947. His artwork was first exhibited in a group show at the Passmore Gallery in England when he was eight years old. He was accepted into the prestigious London School Of Art after graduating with honors from high school. Since 1973, Michael has dedicated his life to his art, including a period of paintings done with palette knife and ink washes, and fine detailed pen and ink drawings. In 1987 he started a primitive style of painting using primary colours. The work evolved as Michael added depth and perspective, creating a unique style of painting which has influenced many other artists. Some have called his style “contemporary primitive”. In 1988, he became a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. In 1994, he became a member of the Fine Arts Trade Guild of England. Michael has been featured on many television shows including the Vicki Gabereau show, Shaw cable, and City TV. Two of his works were chosen to be part of the successful Vancouver Olympic bid presentation to the IOC members in Prague. The Bid Committee presented two works, “The Best of Whistler” and “The Best Of Vancouver”. His largest public work is a 30x40’ mural at Richmond General Hospital. Michael has donated time and art to support many charities and schools including Ronald Macdonald House, Vancouver Children’s Hospital, Canuck Place, Children’s Help Phone. His best-selling book “The Colors of British Columbia” is based on Michael’s works and written by David Bouchard. Michael’s daring colors and style creates bold, uplifting images that make a powerful statement about the world around us and how we can choose to see it. His latest works are accompanied by his poetry written for each original work.
